The art of portraiture is one I have always dreamed of mastering. Obviously, the universal goal is to become like Sargent or Velasquez or some other such genius. People's faces are in my opinion the most complex and unquestioningly beautiful subjects to paint, they require an unrelenting devotion. Frankly a devotion that my attention span has yet to produce, but I'm working on it. I also am deeply attracted to the permanence that apainted portrait offers. Beauty lives forever in paintings (if you can manage to paint beautifully, that is) and I think people's faces are the most beautiful.
